Installing the 3ds max 5.1 Update patch
- Download the patch to a temporary folder.
- Reboot the computer and do not run 3ds max before beginning the installation.
- Double-click to launch the patch installer.
This will locate and display the folder in which you have installed 3ds max
5.
- Follow the prompts to upgrade your copy of 3ds max 5 to
5.1.
If you are sharing files with other
3ds max 5 users, or planning to use the Network Rendering feature
of
3ds max 5 you must install the patch on each copy of
3ds max
5 that will be Network Rendering or sharing files.
All running
backburner
applications (i.e.
manager.exe, managersvc.exe, server.exe,
serversvc.exe and
Monitor.exe) on all Rendering Servers should be
shutdown before running the
3dsmax 5.1 upgrade.
If the Server and
Manager are running as services, remove them before installing the updater.
For example, if
3ds max is installed in the C:\3dsmax5 folder, the
services can be removed by going to the Windows Start menu > Run, and
typing:
c:\3dsmax5\backburner2\managersvc -r [OK]
- and
c:\3dsmax5\backburner2\serversvc -r [OK]
This patch is not a standalone copy of
3ds max 5.1. It is
intended to be installed over an existing installation of
3ds max 5.0
and will not require additional authorization.
Note: The installer on the 3ds max 5.1 / character studio 4 CD does not recognize the 3ds max 5.1 update provided by this downloadable patch.
This update does not contain any
character studio files. If you later decide to install
character studio 4 from the
character studio 4 CD, a dialog will appear warning you that you must uninstall
3ds max 5 and install
3ds max 5.1 prior to installing
character studio 4. There is no loss of license caused by this if you reinstall into the original folder.
You may wish to upgrade your copy of
3ds max 5 to
3ds max 5.1 by CD if possible, rather than by this patch.
